French is currently studied in Coláiste Chú Chulainn from 1st to 3rd year.

The current 2nd and 3rd years are studying the original Junior Certificate Programme and the current 1st years are embarking on the new JCT Programme for French.

French is studied for 2 hours per week in 1st and 2nd year and 3 hours per week in 3rd year.

French language learning is very varied yet is focused around the 5 key skills of the new JCT, these are: listening, reading, writing, spoken interaction and spoken production. The approach of the new JCT framework for French centers around a communicative approach, encouraging the students to use the French they are learning to enable them to speak and have everyday conversations through the medium of French.

Students are supported in composing a Portfolio of their work throughout the year which will showcase their language learning journey from 1st to 3rd year and serve as a reflection tool that they can look back on and see how far they have progressed in their language journey.
